  The Internal Revenue Service today kicked off the 2009 tax filing season by announcing a number of new steps to help financially distressed taxpayers maximize their refunds and speed payments while providing additional help to people struggling to meet their tax obligations.

  The Franchise Tax Board has merged all of the California State Tax Resources onto a single page for a more convenient way to submit your taxes.

• IRS Speeds Lien Relief for Homeowners Trying to Refinance, Sell - 12/16/2008

  The Internal Revenue Service today announced an expedited process that will make it easier for financially distressed homeowners to avoid having a federal tax lien block refinancing of mortgages or the sale of a home.

• Limited offer for eligible withholding agents to remit past-due nonresident withholding for 2008 - 12/15/2008

  Franchise Tax Board (FTB) offers a 2008 Nonresident Withholding Incentive Program (NWIP) for a limited time to withholding agents who are first-time filers and remitters of nonresident, nonwage withholding. Eligible withholding agents may remit past-due, 2008 withholding as additional compensation on behalf of the nonresident payee and pay interest by March 16, 2009. We will credit the 2008 withholding to the nonresident payee.
